As a hardcore techno-freak it becomes our nature to offer answers to intriguing questions faced by many a people like us.
A blog posted by one of our keen reviewers Rohan Gupta in his blog interested my freak mind for some time. Then I trawled the contents of the WWW and finally got the answer..!
"Take out the battery from underneath the laptop and then press the power button on top for about 15 seconds or so without the battery connected". This elegant solution to a very common problem is a also known by a phenomenon known as Static Discharge. It happens due to the accumulation of electrostatic charge on certain bodies like plastic( Which most of the laptops are made of).
On pressing the metallic power button the excess charge is drawn by our hand thereby switching on the laptop. In a sense our bodies act like an antistatic devices. This is the same reason why sometime back cellphones could be charged using a Rs 10 note. The charge accumulated was simply transferred to the battery.
But this static discharge can be very fatal many-a-times. I personally have encountered cases when simply by touching a speakers circuitry( After a lot of screw opening ) with bare hands blew up the IC of the circuit.
So it is always advisable to touch a metal before touching any sensitive circuitry or better to use an Antistatic device so that the charge that gets accumulated gets reduced.
Njoy!
